IGERT FELLOWSHIPS FOR PhD STUDENTS ENTERING IN FALL 2008
Applicants for full-time Bioinformatics PhD study who are U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents are automatically eligible for a Bioinformatics IGERT Fellowship. The IGERT Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis. We anticipate 6 or 7 IGERT Fellows entering in fall 2008. For further information about applying to the Program in Bioinformatics, click here. The Bioinformatics IGERT Fellowship provides the following:
- A stipend of $30,000 per year plus tuition, for up to two years, for
study leading to the Bioinformatics PhD degree.
- Eligibility for an IGERT International Research Fellowship (IIRF) which
will pay your travel and living expenses, up to $7,000, for travel to an
international partner university for 3 to 4 months to conduct collaborative
research in support of your dissertation. We currently have collaborating
faculty in Germany, Japan, and Israel. Approval of other partners is possible.
The IIRF is competitive among IGERT Fellows, with 4 IIRFs per year expected.
- Up to $1,000 for travel to a professional meeting to give an invited
talk on your research.
- Up to $1,750 for publication/page charges for a journal publication on which you are first author.
The travel and publication benefits remain available to you for 5 years after you begin the PhD program so long as you remain a full-time student in good academic standing and successfully advance to candidacy. The International Research Fellowships generally become available after the 2nd year of training.
Stipend and tuition support after the first two years is independent of the IGERT Fellowship and will normally be provided in the form of a Research Assistantship by your dissertation advisor.
